Music major with a minor in another area of music?
the only music minors I’ve seen are called just that: "music minor"
I want to know if its possible to major in one area of music, performance, for instance, and minor in another area, like music ed.
or is the only music minor just general music courses, like a BA in music?
The answer depends on the size of the music department at the university. Indiana University, Bloomington, which is the best general university for music in the country, offers about a dozen options or more. Most schools have no or few options.

Many schools have options or emphases within the music major, but the degree that you earn would be a BA in Music, regardless of your emphasis. If that is the case, you can’t have a major and a minor in the same thing, so you could do a double emphasis, but not a major and a minor in music. It is only if the name of your degree was actually different (one degree in Music Performance and one in Music Education), and both majors and minors were offered for each (which seems unlikely) that you could do this.
