Why are the geese around my area flying north?

Posted on February 14th, 2010 by admin in north area | 4 Comments »

I live right off of I-70 which runs East and West. Lately there have been a lot of geese around the area (Missouri) and they are always flying north. I thought they flew south for the winter? Is Missouri considered ’south’ to geese?

Geese and other waterfowl have daily movement patents that are related to food availability and weather. I live in southern Illinois where many snow and Canada goose winter. They typically move from Refuge to Refuge. These are north, south, east and west. They also move from corn field to corn field. They may spend a few days in southern Indiana one week and then the next week they maybe in southwest Missouri. No matter the direction. What does effect their movement is snow and ice cover. Just about any thickness of ice will force them to move south, it takes about 3 or 4 inches of snow to force that. However, when the ice and snow melts, some of the geese will return.

Waterfowl rarely spend the whole winter in any one location.

Edit: The proper common name is Canada goose/geese. Not Canadian.

How much does a substitute teacher get paid in the North Dallas area?

Posted on February 2nd, 2010 by admin in north area | 2 Comments »

How much can a person get paid with a Bachelors Degree make for substituting in the north Dallas area: Plano, Richardson, Dallas or other nearby cities? No teaching experience, not bilingual.

The best thing for you to do is call one of the district offices, or go online. Substitutes get paid the same regardless of their qualifications, so if you’re accepted you’ll make the same salary as all subs in the area. I would imagine, though, that a big city like Dallas will pay a bit more than the outlying areas. I’m in California and substitute pay is determined by each school district. You might be able to get a map of the school districts in that area by googleing the Texas department of education.

Can someone recommend a good reasonably priced resume Writing Service in the North Atlanta area?

Posted on January 31st, 2010 by admin in north area | 3 Comments »

I’m looking for a resume writing service somewhere in the northern Atlanta area. It needs to be good but reasonably priced. Can anyone help?

When you begin to think about how to write your resume, think about how you can sell the most important product, YOU. The goal is to identify how to make a powerful impression in approximately 1 page. When you write your resume, you want to stand out from all the other pieces of papers, resumes the company has received. You want the company to find a way to visualize you and your qualifications, educations and experience through a piece of paper. In some ways less is more, but more accurately stated, a resume must be CONCISE and POWERFUL.

First, you will clearly state who you are. Your name, address, phone and email should be included at the top of your resume. Remember that your name is more important than your other identifiers at this stage. Make your name lager in font or change color from address. You will want your name to stand out over your address, etc. If the company does not know your name, you will not be getting a call, letter or email.

Next, when you write your resume, you will want a summary of your qualifications or a list of core competencies. This list should have 4 or 5 key competencies. Examples would be: excellent communication skills, supervisory skills, accomplished resource for others, etc. This is the place where you will make it or break it with the company you are seeking employment. Make this section fantastic.

Next is your education. Be concise about school name, year and degree obtained. If you had any special academic awards, add them here.

The section on credentials is important if the position you are applying for requires certification or licenses.

The next section is also very important. When you write your resume, focus on how to best describe your experience history. Your potential employer will want to be able to understand your responsibilities quickly. Use of bullet points is necessary to draw attention to an articulate description of your responsibilities. Identify how to write your experience in powerful words. List responsibilities you have experienced in words that demonstrate your knowledge and competency in these areas.

Other accomplishments: If you have any other information, jobs, publications, honors, affiliations with career groups, etc. Place them in this section.

References: This is highly debatable. Many resume companies state that this does not have to be included. Prepare your reference page to include current supervisor and professional references. Include their title and phone number. It does not hurt to include it, even if it is not required at the beginning stages. Companies can not contact your references without your permission. You can rest that your resume had been complete.

Remember to check that your bullet points are included and that your wording is powerful and accurate. You are sending everything you worked for in a piece of paper. Your goal on your resume is to allow the employer to develop a picture of you on that resume.

Spell check and edit your resume several times. Have friends and family review your resume. Take their feedback. You can also submit to a professional site for review. There are a few that will do it for free, others have a charge.

Where is the cheapest movie theatre in North Seattle area?

Posted on January 24th, 2010 by admin in north area | 2 Comments »

I was going with some friends to watch Harold and Kumar 2 in the theater, was wondering where the best price would be in North Seattle. Let me know please thanks!

Prices are pretty much the same at all the theatres, aside from some that are a little more like Pacific Place. The "discount" theatres usually play movies that aren’t just released, so wouldn’t have Harold and Kumar 2 yet…

Gotta just go to Oaktree around 105th? Otherwise, catch a matinee, the earlier showings that are cheaper at the same theatres. Movie theatres have gotten expensive!

Does anyone know any honest, reliable, inexpensive auto repair shops in the North Dallas area?

Posted on January 21st, 2010 by admin in north area | 2 Comments »

I have a Honda Accord and it just reached the 60,000 mile mark. I want to do a tune up that includes the works (i.e. changing plugs, rotor & cap, oil, fuel and air filter, also wheel alignment and inspection, etc..) does anyone know a good auto mechanic that can do this in the North Dallas area? Also, how much you think it would cost? Thanks.

I lived in the Dallas area for many years. For the most part the only mechanics were $78.00 per hour up. The best alignment shop was in Duncanville. I think it was Precision Alignment or Superior Alignment something like that. It was off Camp Wisdom and Main. The best general mechanics shop was a place recommended to me by American Armature. It may have been McGuire. It’s near Haskell and I-30. They aren’t cheap but as honest as the day is long and they know what they are doing. I ALMOST FORGOT CHRISTIAN BROTHERS only used them a few times but when they give you an estimate you can count on it coming in at or under the estimate. They were to put in a wheel bearing and because of rust an stuff wound up doing a whole lot more and it didn’t cost me a dime over the initial estimate. It is the one on Eldorado in Mckinney that I went to but I was referred by a friend who used a different member of the company I would take my daughters car there if it needed work. Your Honda dealer SHOULD be a reliable source but you never know at least if they find anything wrong a warranted item they should fix it. Hope this helps.

What are some good bars and clubs in Sydney’s north shore area?

Posted on January 17th, 2010 by admin in north area | 4 Comments »

Some friends and I are running out of bars and clubs to visit in the north shore part of Sydney, so it’d be awesome if you could recommend any good ones you’ve been to or heard of. Preferably places fairly close to a train station and if so please specify.

Cheers guys and girls

It is better to go on a dinner cruise on Sydney Harbour. You can enjoy unlimited beer, wine & soft drink onboard.

Are there any completely fenced in dog parks in the Willowdale area?North York?

Does anyone know a dog behavior specialist in the North Dallas Area?

Posted on December 28th, 2009 by admin in north area | 2 Comments »

I live in north Dallas and I am looking for someone who know of a dog behavior specialist that deals with agression and fear. My dog knows basic obidience (sit, stay, roll over, shake, down) but I need someone to work on his fear and agression.

If I were you, I’d call Operation Kindness in Carrollton and ask if they have any recommendations. They’re so massive I’d think they’d have a lot of ideas. If not, call some of the larger animal rescue groups (you can find them at petfinder.com) and ask for recommendations. I would think these people could suggest names, as well. If it helps any, I don’t think you’ll find one in F. North Dallas or Addison – either the heart of the city or someplace like Plano. Good luck!
