How would i find detailed maps of uninhabited wilderness area?

They dont have to be extremely detailed like satellite, just topo and geographic maps of rivers, mtns, valleys etc.

Depends which country. For example, it might be quite easy to get a 1:50,000 (or possibly 25,000) map of an uninhabited area of US or Canada, but not Mongolia.
