I grew up in Mifflinville, PA which is a small enought town to begin with. We were not allowed to go to the section of town known as "Divorcee's Row" because that's where the single moms with the bad kids lived. (Stupid now, but it was the 70's.) It was also where our town's subsized housing was. That section of town is still known as that.

Philly has a lot of these areas, olde city, university city, italian market, germantown (no longer german). I like "jewlers row" for the area where there a lot of jewlery stores.

We have an area in Wichita named Old Town. They went in and remodeled it and put in clubs and restaurants and shops. Its pretty cool.

Dry Creek and Silverado and Browns Valley are all rich areas (which I don't live in). Kilburn will get you killed with all the gang activity. There's east of the mental hospital, also called the Loony Bin Area, where if you say you need to go into that area people say "Only go during daylight." If you say Laurel or Old Sonoma, same thing.

Yes, we have Bahama Village which is basically the ghetto, we have Old Town and New Town, Mount Trashmore which is the, you guessed it, landfill, we call ourselves "THE ROCK" because we're in the middle of the ocean so when we go to the Mainland we say "getting off the rock tomorrow", Lake Sangelaton is a crossway that constantly floods near City Hall. And basically Duval Street is "the land of tourists"...

Almost every area of NY is called something Some examples are "Hell's Kitchen, Clinton, Chelsea, Tribeca, SOHO, NOHO, the financial district (Wall Street), Bed Stuy, Garment District, Advertising Alley (Madison Avenue)"

My favorite is Pigsville (in Milwaukee, WI). I don't remember why it's named that though.
