Where does the volume/surface area formula for a sphere come from?

In my geometry class, I noticed there is no "proof" for the volume and surface area formula for a sphere. When I looked it up online, Again I found nothing. Does anyone know what evidence there is to back up these formulas?

Both formulas can be derived using calculus.

  2. Archimedes was the first to prove it, over 2000 years ago, in Greece.
Nowadays, the most common proofs use calculus.
