What is the formula for area and how do you do it?

You are tiling a floor using square tiles with sides of length 5 inches.

Question number 1: If you use 4 tiles to make the large square shown, what are the perimeter and area of this square?

2) If you use 9 tiles to make a larger square, what are the perimeter and area of this square?

1) About how many miles will you run in 100 minutes.

2) On Monday and on Tuesday you run for 25 minutes. On Wednesday you run for 15 minutes. About how many miles have you run in all?

the area for the square with 4 tiles is 25 multiplied by 4 or 100 inches squared. the perimeter is 8 multiplied 5 or 40 inches

the area for a square with 9 tiles is 25 multiplied by 9 or 225 inches squared. the perimeter is 12 multiplied by 5 or 60 inches.

First multiply 600 (amount of feet per minute) by 25 to get 15,000. Then, multiply 15,000 by 2 to get 30,000. Next, 600 by 15 to get 9,000. Finally add 30,000 and 9,000 to get your answer.

    so area is 25
    for triangles its base * height divided by 2
    for parolellograms its also base * height
    for circles its radius * pi which is 3.1415….. it goes on for a while… but your supposed to use 3.14
    Radius is the distance halfway through the circle. diameter is the distance all the way through the circle.

    1) perimeter=40 inches area = 100 inches squared
    2) perimeter=60 inches area = 225 inches squared

    dont actually square them, just write that.

  5. Area is length times width, or, in other words, the length of one side times the length of the other side.

    The area of a tile is therefore 5 inches x 5 inches = 25 inches^2

    A square made of four of these tiles will have four times this area, and the perimeter can be found by figuring out the length of one side and multiplying by four. Try drawing a picture of the four tiles and remembering the length of each side, and you should be able to figure that out.
