What is the best way to remove trees from 5 acres of wooded area fairly cheaply?

We have just bought a home with nine acres of land and 5 of them are wooded. We are clearing the area for farm land and would like to know what the best way to do this is. Are there people who would buy the wood? If anyone has any advice on how to either (do it ourselves) or have someone else do them it would be appreciated.

call a timber buyer , if the trees arent suitable for timber they will sell them to a chipper plant and they sell them to paper mills and press board plants etc.

There are logging companies that come look at the trees and will pay you to let them cut them and take them. They will probably make a mess in your yard, but you could check that as an option.

  2. I would say to check with the local fire department to see if they need to practice fire training i.e. woods fire on control burning. It wouldn’t cost you a thing.

  3. Try the phone book; if someone local is buying they’ll be listed there. Otherwise, maybe the local small town not chain lumberyard may have a suggestion; as might a local farm bureau office or county ag service. Should check with them anyway if you are going into farming

  4. Put an add in your local paper saying you have standing firewood for sale. People will actually pay you to come and cut it. one drawback though…some of them aren’t too careful about the kind of "mess" they leave behind…and it can be a lot of work for you to have to clean up.

If they are large trees, contact a logger to come and cut them for lumber. This can amount to a lot of money, if they are the right types of trees. My cousin purchased 50 acres and cut enough sawlogs off of it to pay the entire purchase price. If they are smaller trees, have someone cut them for firewood. Or you can get someone with a bulldozer to clear the land and burn the piles. Even if you have them cut down, the stumps will have to be pushed out.

  7. You don’t say what size the trees are or what condition they are in. If you can put your arms around them or they have dead limbs in them then they are no good for lumber. If they are small enough just hook a truck to them & pull. If they are too big for a truck use a chain saw. Make sure you do your studies on cutting trees. There are a lot of people killed that think they know how to fall a tree. There is even people killed that are pros at it.

What are you farming? Do you have to get rid of the trees?

If you’re farming livestock then 5 acres isn’t enough. You will spend more on feed then you can make off the animals.
