How would you size a central air unit for a 1000sq ft area of 5 rooms?

i am looking for a certain calculation here

the most used for that size is what they call a 5 ton unit. its very energy efficient and you want a heat pump and nit a straight ac as you’ll pay more for straight ac. they have 3.5 tons but they work harder and rarely is anything less than a 5 ton unit now. a five ton unit heat pump can handle your size to homes over 2500 sq. feet and sometimes more. usually its 500 sq. feet per ton. but they don’t make a one ton. my condo has a 5 ton unit with heat pump. the air handler is a bit less and they are not that big. its 1200 sq. feet and my electric is on average 28.00 a month.
